Abstract:There are two kinds of problems in the study of covering-based rough sets combined with the fuzzy sets. That
is, on the one hand, in the existing covering-based rough fuzzy set models, there is often too big difference between the
lower and upper approximate memberships of an element in the universe; and on the other hand, for any element in the
universe, the lower and upper approximate memberships of it have nothing to do with the membership of itself in the given
fuzzy set. Therefore, by defining the concept of fuzzy covering-based rough membership, the relationships between minimal
descriptions of elements contained in the universe and the given fuzzy set are built. The memberships of the element in the
given fuzzy set are also considered. Then, on this basis, a new covering-based rough fuzzy set model is established. The
comparative study between this model and the existing models shows that proposed model can solve the above two kinds of
problems effectively.
